After a long wait, Hasselblad has finally released it’s 100MP Medium Format Mirrorless X2D 100C camera. the X2D establishes itself as Hasselblad’s new flagship mirrorless medium format camera.

With a 100 megapixel CMOS sensor and improvements in image quality, focusing, stabilization, responsiveness, and storage the X2D 100C combines groundbreaking engineering with legendary Scandinavian design. And did we mention 1TB internal storage? Wow!

Product Highlights:

 • 100MP 43.8 x 32.9mm BSI CMOS Sensor
 • 16-Bit Color, 15-Stop Dynamic Range
 • 294 Phase Detection Autofocus Zones
 • 5-Axis 7-Stop In-Body Stabilization
 • 1.00x 5.76m-Dot Electronic Viewfinder

 • ISO 64-25600, Up to 3.3 fps Shooting
 • Internal 1TB SSD Memory
 • CFexpress Type B Card Slot

New Lenses

Hasselblad has also released 3 new lenses for the X2D 100C:

The new camera and lenses are available for pre-order immediately at B&H Photo and Adorama.

100MP BSI CMOS Sensor

 • Engineered with a large 100MP BSI CMOS sensor, the X2D 100C features an extremely wide dynamic range of up to 15 stops along with vivid 16-bit color depth. The camera’s 16-bit color depth can deliver up to 281 trillion colors, 64 times higher than 14-bit. When combined with the Hasselblad Natural Color Solution system, tonal transitions and skin tones show immense depth, detail, and clarity for lifelike image quality. This color management system also creates imagery with exquisite color and detail for exceptionally smooth tonal transitions reminiscent of analog film capture.

Fast and Accurate Phase Detection Autofocus

 • Designed with a newly developed phase detection autofocus (PDAF) system, the X2D 100C utilizes 294 PDAF zones to provide fast and accurate focusing at the press of a button. Additionally, an updated electronic platform enables a quick 3.4 fps continuous shooting rate to capture fleeting moments in fast-paced environments.

5-Axis 7-Stop In-Body Image Stabilization

 • Featuring 5-axis 7-stop in-body image stabilization (IBIS), the X2D 100C compensates for five different types of camera shake encountered during handheld shooting of stills. This precise and efficient system significantly reduces motion blur at slower shutter speeds and enables you to confidently capture handheld 100MP images in real-life scenarios.

Built-In Storage

 • Equipped with a built-in 1TB SSD with a write speed up to 2370 MB/s, the X2D 100C can store approximately 4600 raw photos or 13,800 JPEG photos. Although ample storage is built-in, additional space can be utilized via the camera’s CFexpress Type B card slot. Thanks to its high-speed storage performance, the X2D 100C is able to continuously shoot 16-bit raw images in Continuous Drive Mode, providing a stable and reliable continuous shooting experience.

Upgraded Displays and Viewfinder

 • Upgraded 3.6″ 2.36m-dot touch-and-tilt rear display provides a genuine and accurate full-view preview. The display also supports 40° and 70° tilting angles for convenient composition, making low-angle shots easier to compose without the need to bend down.
 • Designed with a full-color top display, the X2D 100C clearly and intuitively shows camera parameters. The top display also works seamlessly with the tilt-and-touch rear display for low-angle shooting. You can now quickly check shutter, aperture, and ISO without having to frequently check the main screen.
 • Enhanced 5.76m-dot OLED electronic viewfinder providing 1.0x magnification for bright and clear eye-level viewing. This upgraded EVF increases contrast during composition in both direct sunlight and low-light scenarios for a sharper view and a clear and immersive experience. Additionally, a new electronic diopter adjustment feature allows for a personally tailored view.

Body Design and Other Camera Features

 • Machined from individual blocks of aluminum alloy, the upper and lower shells of the X2D 100C are precisely crafted and manually assembled by experienced technicians.
 • Powers on in 2 seconds and provides a shorter shutter lag and blackout time for a smooth operational experience.
 • Neat and intuitive Hasselblad User Interface (HUI) provides quick and efficient touch control for swipe, scroll, pinch/spread to zoom, and more.
 • Sensitivity range of ISO 64-25600 is available, and still files are saved in the Hasselblad 3FR raw file format or as JPEGs.
 • Optimized for use with XCD series of lenses, which offer an integrated central shutter system, capable of sync speeds up to 1/4000 seconds.
 • Electronic shutter speeds up to 1/6000 seconds.
 • TTL support for Nikon SB-300, SB-500, SB-5000, SB-700, SB-900, and SB-910 flashes, as well as Profoto A1, B1, and B2 flashes for Nikon.
 • USB 3.1 Gen2 Type-C connector can be used for file transfer, tethered shooting, or for in-camera battery charging via a computer, charger, or power bank.
 • Built-in Wi-Fi permits wireless sharing of files as well as remote camera control operation.
 • iOS device support for iPad models with 3GB of RAM or more and iPhone X or later models running iOS 14.0 or later.
 • Platform support for use with macOS 10.15 or later, or Windows 7 64-bit or later.

Last week we reported on the news of an upcoming Hasselblad X1D Mark ii. Recently registered at Bluetooth.com, it revealed that the original X1D’s days are numbered.

Little did we know who right we were, and how soon.

Yesterday a Facebook user shared news that one of our most popular online camera stores, B&H Photo, is now listing the X1D as “discontinued”. We’ve been writing about product launches for years now on this, and other, gear sites and there are always similar events that hint at new product launches and retirements. We’ve hit on two of the most common: new product leaks at regulatory sites, and price-drops on existing gear.

Back in October, B&H dropped the price of the X1D-50c by $2,500 making it clear that a new model was coming soon.

While we don’t have clear specs on the new X1D Mark ii, we’re really hoping that 4K video is one of the bullet points.

Based on the pace of event around the X1D Mark ii, we think a Hasselblad will be releasing the new camera very, very soon.

Stay tuned.

Hasselblad’s 50 megapixel dream, the relatively young X1D, is about to get a brother.

Just over a month ago Bluetooth.com reported a new listing for an X1D Mark II submitted by the Swedish camera maker.

No other details are available, but it starts us wondering just what new specs could we see in the new model?

Hasselblad did a major price drop on the X1D in 2018, dropping the list price almost 50% and bringing what many call “the finest camera I have ever held” closer to larger audience.

But the one complaint we heard over and over was the absence of 4K video in the original X1D-50c. Will Hasselblad do what they should have done with the original X1D and give us 4K? Time will tell.

No details yet on a release date. As with other product launches we should see price drop(s) on the X1D as we get closer to an announcement.

The X1D is currently $6495 at B&H Photo, down from the $8995 launch price.

Have the scoop on X1D Mark II features or just want to share your wish list? Let us know in the comments below.

The post Is a 100MP 4K Hasselblad X1D Coming? appeared first on Hasselblad News.

]]>
When Hasselblad launched the X1D mirrorless, medium-format camera in June 2016 it was groundbreaking. With it’s 50 megapixel sensor it really raised the bar. Except for one thing: the 1080p video spec missed the mark by more than a few inches.

Launched just 2 months after the legendary H6D-50c adm H6D-100c, it looked like Hasselblad was laying claim in two categories. But many were on the 1080p video head-scratcher.

Since then, Hasselblad has updated the H6 platform with the 400 megapixel monster, the H6D-400c that, like it’s H-series brothers, also captures 4K video.

The X1D has quietly been left alone. The occassional firmware upgrade. Lovely lenses and user contentment with a glorious 50 megapixel sensor.

Two years later, the absence of 4K video in a mirrorless is becoming a bigger elephant in the room. Whether Hasselblad releases an X1D-100c or an all new X2D, it can’t wait much longer. There’s just too much competition out there.

We would love to see Hasselblad release an upgraded mirrorless in the first half of 2019. If it will happen is still anyone’s guess. But the channels we monitor are showing increasing chatter on this topic, which makes us think that something is in the works at Hasselblad.
